About Energ

Independent, plain-English guides to saving on Texas electricity — powered by data, not provider commissions.

Why we exist

Texas has one of the most competitive electricity markets in the world — and one of the most confusing. Between teaser rates, bill credits, tiered pricing and auto-renew traps, the average household overpays for power without ever realizing it. Energ exists to fix the information gap: we explain, in plain English, how the market works and which services genuinely help consumers come out ahead.

What we cover

Our current focus is Energy Ogre, the Texas membership service that shops the entire electricity market on its members’ behalf. On this site you’ll find:

How we research

We rely on primary sources — Energy Ogre’s own published materials, the Public Utility Commission of Texas, and the structure of the deregulated Texas market itself. When we cite a figure (like member savings or membership pricing), we attribute it and date it. We do not accept payment from electricity providers, and we don’t rank providers for money. If something about a service wouldn’t benefit our readers, we say so — see “when it might not pay off” on our savings page.

How this site is funded

Energ is reader-supported. Some links to energyogre.com are promotional: if you sign up through them, we may receive compensation from the service at no extra cost to you. This never changes what we write, which claims we question, or which downsides we point out. Our editorial standard is simple: would we be comfortable if a reader knew exactly how we make money? Every page answers yes — the disclosure appears in our privacy policy and in the footer of every page.

Independence

Energ is an independent publication. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Energy Ogre, and “Energy Ogre” is a trademark of Energy Ogre, LLC. We reference the name because our readers are researching the service — not because anyone asked us to.
